How Schools Typically Use STEPS

Most SENCOs tell us they implement STEPS in phases:

  1. Initial focus on 1-2 priority areas (often Autism, ADHD or SLCN)
  2. Core staff complete Level 1 in these areas first
  3. SEND champions in each department/year group complete Level 2
  4. SENCO and key staff access Level 3 specialist content
  5. Gradually expand to additional SEND areas based on school needs
